- US and Israeli bomb flights chased away from Prestwick airport
- Court case launched against the bomb flights
- Edinburgh International Film Festival return Israeli embassy sponsorship money
- Israel cricket match cancelled
It is a hectic period for campaigners for justice and peace in the Middle East.
For one, we've had this issue of US bombs for Israel to all-the-better-to-kill-the-Lebanese-with, flying via Prestwick Airport. Things were set to get worse with more flights, and visits from the Israel Air Force itself (click on picture above from Sunday Express). Protests were held and outrage abounded amongst opposition parties and the media.
The point was quite rightly made that Ireland had refused these flights, so why were they now coming to Scotland? Fearing the nationalist reaction, Scottish Secretary Douglas Alexander apparently intervened, and now Margaret Beckett, who launched a fake protest about the issue last week, has them going to military airports in England.
We've not heard the last of it in Scotland though. Aamer Anwar is launching a court case against the guilty parties. I'll be speaking at the press conference tomorrow.
But for now, over to you England. Will you do the same as Scotland and Ireland and drive this outrage from your country?
It needs to be noted that the government has said that these bomb flights will not now be using civilian airports - just military ones. This is significant. With the UK's military resources at the disposal of Israel, does this mean that the UK is effectively also at war with Lebanon?
The Scottish Palestine Solidarity Campaign has meanwhile managed to get the Edinburgh International Film Festival to return sponsorship money from the Israeli embassy. They threatened to picket all their events unless the money was returned.
Amongst all this, we also have the visit of the Israeli cricket team to Glasgow this week for a tournament. The European Cricket Council has refused to cancel the match, and it looks all set for mass protests this Thursday, Saturday and Sunday.
Following meetings, the police earlier today decided to relocate the match to another venue in Glasgow which could hold more people. However at 9pm tonight we've been told again that the venue has changed. Except no decision will be taken to where that will be till the morning.
Intriguing. I shall keep you posted.
UDPATE 02/08/06: Victory! Tomorrow's Israel cricket match has been cancelled. The police say they could not find a venue large enough to hold the protest.
However, they're saying the matches on Saturday and Sunday are still on. I'm having difficulty in seeing how they're going to build an even bigger venue by then. We shall see.
UPDATE: 04/08/06: Make sure you're at the cricket matches this weekend. More info

There is a large Jewish Community in Glasgow and they have close ties with Israel. So why should the Israelis not come to play cricket? It is a sport and leave politics out of sport. The cricketers are not responsible for the war.
The Israeli army needs to get its arms from somewhere so does it matter where? There is a war on and they need supplies. Scotland is closer to the US and so useful as a stop over. The Republic of Ireland is a country with links to the terrorist IRA which in turn has links with the PLO. The Jews would not want to go there. Israel is fighting a war which Hezbollah started. Hezbollah must therefore accept the blame for all the death and destruction which occurs. Until they decommission their weapons and allow Lebanese and Israelis to live in peace the war will likely continue with the full backing of the USA.

Hezbollah Hit For Seven
It's a hectic period for Islamofascist vermin in south Lebanon.
For one, they've had the issue of passing off their numerous dead as 'civilians'. Things were set to get worse, with more Israeli precision-targeted bombing raids, but MSM protested by conniving with terrorists in manufacturing the Qana 'massacre'.
Israel quite rightly made the point that it is a democracy under a sustained, genocidal attack by Muslim terrorists, and appealed to all right-thinking nations to assist in Her self-defence. The craven leftists in Scotland and Ireland adopted the French-position and refused. England stood firm, reminding those north of the border that they are, in fact, still part of the Union.
By way of petty revenge, Scottish Muslims and leftists have done what they do best, clamping down on free speech at a film festival and fun at a cricket match.
VICTORY! No, not the film-and-cricket embargo. This. Bye-bye Hezbollah.

You seem quite proud of yourself for supporting terrorists.
If you believe in the hezzies and hate Israel so much why not move to lebanon and fight?
Or is whining about films and cricket matches more your speed?

You claim this is victory -- but there is still Israel, and there are still Jews. How far do you support Hezbullah? As Kender mentioned, are you planning on heading over to fight them yourself? Is it okay if Israel targets you, personally, with a bomb, since you so strongly oppose them and support those who are trying to kill them? If not, why not?
How is it "justice and peace" when Hezbullah attacks Israel? Is your idea of peace only when Muslims rule the entire world? Why do you so strongly oppose freedom?

OMG! It's the Attack of the American Wingnuts!

George, they don't like it up 'em!
Easy response would be to say "Why don't you go and kill some kids in Lebanon?". They'd be the first to complain about Muslims going abroad to fight, but they are the ones inciting it. Guys, we're engaging in the political process. Get used to it.

Everything is the jews' fault, soon there will be another kristallnacht courtesy of idiots like you, blind to the threat; blind to your own hatred.
Israel has the most experience with dealing with terrorists and their way works. "The world" should sit up and take notice rather than clamor for 'appeasement', 'peace and understanding'.
When will leftists realize that head hackers would just as soon see them dead as well? To them, we're all the infidel, or have you not read their holy screeds or the words from Sheikh Bin Laden? Oh yeah, Bin Laden said that the goals of Al Qaeda's are the same as those of the socialists because of the old arab saying; 'the enemy of my enemy is my friend'. Until that relationship becomes inconvenient, then you have 'takeyya!', beheadings, and dragging bodies through the streets and hanging charred broken remains of of the infidels from bridges (Mogadishu, Fallujah, etc.). Or setting cars on fire, like in France, where they are trying so hard to appease the Islamists and cover their antisemitism that things are starting to get a bit out of control there.
So we may see something similar in Edinburgh.
Ahh but nevermind that, you'd rather celebrate a victory for Islamofascist radicals, albeit a rather embarrassingly french one-a film festival and a cricket match...but then...I suppose you take the Michael Moore view of it; that 'there is no terrorist threat'.
And EurAbia applauds.
"Free Palestine!" "No Blood for Oil!" "Busthitlerrovianconspiracy!" "The World Can't Wait! "Drive out the Bush Regime!"
Whining about film festivals and cricket matches is precisely their speed Kender; running from a 'righteous' fight is as Rotty says; just like the french, and most leftists are...just like the french!
click here Unfortunately, the US and France have joined together in a proposal at the UN, unfortunately Lebanon will have none of it because the proposal doesn't give them enough. But as history shows, Lebanon will never have enough--their goal is to drive the Jews into the sea; they don't recognize Israel's right to exist, just like the rest of the jooo haters.
We should recognize that no 'innocent civilians' are dying at the hands of Israel. Those 'innocents' voted Hezbollah in as their ruling party; they knew full well how they fight. Knowing that Hezbollah lays children to sleep next to missiles, hoping that Israel will find the munitions on their radar and inadvertently kill civilians when targeting them to be destroyed; this is simply how they fight; WAR IS DECEPTION.
Most recent evidence of that is dead bodies trucked from Tyre to Qana in refrigerated trucks to put on gruesome display in a faux photo op to demonstrate how horrible Israel is, courtesy of al-Reuters. Some people caught the deception, though.
In the meantime, we have idiots on the internet blabbering away about nasty Israel and 'innocent' Hesbollah. Bah.

And specifically how do you think isolating Israel will improve the body politic and help towards the restoration of human kindness.
Specifically, how often have you issued a screed against Israel for "bombing civilians" even though that is not their target, but said nothing about the rockets fired by Hezbollah when their targets are very specifically civilian in nature?
None? Thought not!

As opposed to kids in Lebanon (which Israel is not targeting) maybe a certain islamopath in Scotland would like to step into lebanon and defend against Israel?
How about it seed?
Wanna go play cannonball catcher?
Posted by: Kender | 11 August 2006 at 12:01 AM
"Its not their target" - and who says so ?
Why innocent little Israel says so - which is currently illegally occupying three other countries and is in the process of ethnically cleansing, in whole or in part, two of them as well as subjecting their inhabitants to racist war crimes.
Hezbollah, founded in 1982 - oh I wonder why?
Posted by: joe90 | 11 August 2006 at 12:56 AM
some history, for those who comment without knowlege:
1948:israel occupied palestine
1956: israel attacks arab countries
1967: israel occuppies west bank, gaza sinai golan heights
1978: first israeli invasion of lebanon
1982: israel occuppies beirut, lebanon's capital and stays in southern lebanon till 2000
mmm i wonder who started!!!?
one last thing, the apartheid regime in south africs was brought down by boycott. would you play cricket with your neighbour if he was as little as pissing on your lawn every night?
cheers
