Knives remain out for Interpal
UPDATE: The Sunday Telegraph reports that Interpal is now "at the centre of a diplomatic row between Britain, the United States and Israel".
Reading the report, all that seems to be happening is that Israeli Ambassador Zvi Hefetz is holding a meeting with someone at HM Treasury. Who is opening the door there? Labour Friends of Israel member and economic secretary to the Treasury Ivan Lewis.
The phrase "clutching at straws" springs to mind. If Hefetz had any evidence of terrorism he'd give it to the authorities, not faff around with one of his mates at the Treasury.
The article is part of a smear tactic. But if they've got something to say, they should just follow the advice in the last paragraph below.
12/01/06: A US court case has begun against the NatWest bank which has been brought by Israeli victims of bombs. They claim that Interpal funds Hamas and that as Interpal has bank accounts with the NatWest, the bank owes them reparations.
The bank, owned by RBS, seems to have learned from last year's episode with Friends of Al-Aqsa, and has stood firm against the baseless claims.
Interpal have been cleared twice by Charity Commission investigations and recently the Board of Deputies had to apologise and pay damges to them for saying they were a "terrorist organisation".
Despite this, the witchhunt continues. As Interpal's Ibrahim Hewitt said: "It was always likely that the Zionist lobby would try to hit back at Interpal after the defeat in the BOD case."
Note the word "defeat" despite the BoD claiming it wasn't.
Now with Galloway nominating Interpal as his BB charity, newspapers are hiding behind phrases like "Interpal has been accused of terrorism". Weasel-words indeed. If they believe Interpal to be engaged in terrorism let them say it properly. And then like the BoD let them pay more money to the Palestinian relief effort.

Last night, a Treasury spokesman said: "We keep this matter under review." Insiders say that Gordon Brown is under "massive domestic and international pressure" to listen to concerns. A senior Whitehall official said: "If the Charity Commission changes its view we would take action immediately."
Zvi Hefetz, the Israeli ambassador, will meet Ivan Lewis, the economic secretary to the Treasury and a member of Labour Friends of Israel.

Israel receives too much support and sympathy. Instead institutions that fund Israel should be banned.

As-Salaamu 'alaikum
Jamal: if people in the UK are arranging for arms to be channelled to Israeli settlers, they need to be exposed, legal advice sought and private prosecutions brought. That's the only way of nailing terrorist fund-raisers in the UK if the British authorities won't do it.
