GG in the BB House
So George Galloway is taking part in this year's Celebrity Big Brother. Cue the predictable carping from jealous politicians. Here's former Labour MP George Foulkes:
"This means that the people of Bethnal Green and Bow, his constituency, will not be represented properly for all the time he is on the programme.
"His constituents will now realise that, when Labour’s Oona King was their MP, they were represented by someone who cared more for them than by someone who appears to prefer the TV studios to the chamber of the House of Commons."
Now this is opportunism. Everyone knows MPs don't do anything for their constituents themselves. Sedgefield elect Tony Blair time after time, but is it because he personally deals with overhanging trees from one garden to the next? MPs have well-resourced staff and offices for this work which ticks along in the background.
I've worked in Parliament, and most MPs sit on their backsides all day. I'd rather have George Galloway as my MP than one of the hundreds of bland New Labour sheep. I'd rather have George in the Big Brother House than a lobby fodder Labour MP propping up the Big Brother state.

I'd rather have a LibDem or Green as my MP than that very vain man with an awful attendance record - thankfully he "represents" the borough next to mine.
